Gaming Garbage was a internet show about “garbage video games” or something hosted by Something Awful founder Rich Kyanka (more famously known as Lowtax) and Shmorky from 2009-2020. It was dedicated to “Garbage video games” n sheeeit like that. It is notable for having the first mainstream coverage of ss13, which is also the most popular video on the Gaming Garbage YouTube channel.

History

In 2009, Something Awful was slowing down, but was still somewhat popular as a website. Lowtax, also known by his real name Rich Kyanka, decided to convert his YouTube channel, “Lowtaxplaysgames” which was dedicated to Lowtax playing games, into a YouTube channel dedicated to “Gaming Garbage”, or playing video games. He announced the creation of “Gaming Garbage” on Something Awful, Fark, Reddit, and Facebook, looking for a cohost. The cohost he got was Fark founder and bane of sneedywalt’s existence, Drew “Leymahne” Curtis, a freelance writer and man with way too much time on his hands, to create the show. The show’s first video was a satirical video of Lowtax jumping into a wall (it was actually recorded in 2006). The first “Gaming Garbage” video where they actually game garbage was Lowtax and Curtis playing FC2, a game that released in 2004. Most of the early videos (2009-2011, 204 of the 206 videos) were gaming garbage actually being gaming garbage, with Lowtax and Curtis having played 14 games in the process (did you know Shadow Man took 50 videos?). Unfortunately, following the death of Curtis’s nephew, Curtis permanently left Gaming Garbage, causing Lowtax to search for a new cohost. He selected “Shmorky”, a transgender gooner who had a unironic ABDL fetish, and was exposed on Kiwi Farms in late 2017 and then ACK’ed!!!!!!, posting a suicide note on xitter. The content style really went to shit as Lowtax began streaming live on various platforms and focusing on drinking alcohol, drug abuse, seething that 4chan was getting 1000 PPH, and cheating on his various girlfriends. Sometimes it would only be Shmorky and you could tell because the games would all be “cutesy ooh la las” while Lowtax games would be “KILLER DEATH SLAYER GAME MADE IN CONGO”. However, from 2011-2017, the amount of videos would be 406, with 40 of them being just Shmorky who was now the “Star” as he was now the face of the channel, not Kyanka. The most popular video would be a 4 part series on Space Station 13, which attracted a few more immigrants to Something Awful, and also is recommended by Quote as a guide to SS13.

Following Lowtax’s death, Lowtax’s mental state would start to decline. He beat his Pakistani ex wife, took more Alcohol, struggled with incompetent Jannies on Something Awful, and dealt with dwindling wealth due to the increase in Something Awful users refusing to comeback to the site. After 5 short gaming videos and a skit with longtime Something Awful goon “fragmaster”, he announced his retirement in late 2017 from gaming garbage. This meant gaming garbage was officially OVER (but not for long)

The Show returned in 2019, however, with Lowtax and Fragmaster being the hosts. There were only 30 videos, however, of only 16 of which were true gaming garbage.

Lowtax would kill himself in 2021, ending Gaming Garbage permanently. The final video was a stream of Lowtax eating 2 hot dogs for charity.
